Short Assignment 1: Write two professional emails

As you likely have realized now that you are two weeks into your internship, professional emails differ from personal emails in several significant ways. Your first short assignment gives you a chance to perfect the art of writing professional emails.

Begin this assignment by carefully reading the University of North Carolina’s handout titled “Effective E-mail Communication.” Click Here. Follow all of the relevant guidelines offered in the handout as you respond to the two prompts below.

Use information about the work that actually goes on at your current internship in composing these hypothetical emails. But just send them to me in a Microsoft Word document!

1. Write an email to the supervisor for your internship seeking clarifications in the directions you have been given for completing a specific job that you have been given. Ask two or three questions about the process by which you should do this work.

2. Write an email to a group of three new interns who will take over your job at the end of the summer when you leave your position. Explain to the new people how to do a specific task that they will likely perform on a regular basis. (Write about a different task here than you do in email #1, outlined above.) Ask the recipients of the email to respond to you with questions they have about the process. Don't forget to include a title for your emails.
